Estevan in brief

Estevan introduces itself with geography before slogans. The City of Estevan calls it the closest prairie-provinces city to the US border, and the getting-here copy names highways 39, 47, and 18 without romance. Hwy 39 carries Saskatchewan's only 24-hour Port of Entry from the United States, which is how residents explain why plates change so often at Affinity Place events. The Souris River runs through that orientation, with Boundary Dam as the named reservoir landmark on municipal calendars and visitor text that still points people to water.

Recreation talk is concrete. Affinity Place is the arena and booking shorthand in quick-access menus. Estevan Leisure Centre covers pools and fitness when the prairie wind makes outdoor plans negotiable. The Estevan Bruins keep SJHL hockey on the recreation listings, so junior hockey nights are a civic habit rather than a borrowed Regina story. Souris Valley Theatre and Woodlawn Regional Park show up on the same municipal event board when summer wants a different stage than ice.

CBC Saskatchewan covers the wider provincial desk when Estevan files need a broader microphone, but day-to-day life still sounds local: river, dam, highways, and rink. OpenStats has no composite City Score rank for Estevan in the current datapack. The hometown portrait does not need one. Nobody needs a borrowed nickname when the border and the Souris River already do the introducing. It is a Souris River border city that points to Boundary Dam, Affinity Place, the Leisure Centre, and the Bruins when someone asks what evenings look like after the Port of Entry traffic thins.

OpenStats City Score

OpenStats

Dimensional average of OpenStats open-data pillars for each panel year 2016–2025: tax, construction, connectivity, indoor air, water, seismic hazard, population growth, and crime severity. Each series is scored 0–1 within its edition; series in the same pillar are averaged, then all eight pillars are averaged with equal weight. Missing pillars score at median standing (0.5). Growth and CSI use StatCan annual tables; permits, mill rates, and broadband use live rows plus documented year-varying estimates where needed. Radon, water, and PGA may be survey/model vintages carried forward and are flagged when static for more than two years. External commercial livability lists are never inputs.
