How Steinbach scores

Steinbach sits at City Score rank #107 with a standing of 47%, from 8 of 8 open-data pillars (tax, construction, connectivity, indoor air, water, seismic hazard, growth, safety). Missing pillars score at median standing so thin coverage cannot inflate the rank. The chart below shows how that standing moves year to year.

Latest owned placements: building permit value rank #124 of 172 (2025); indoor radon rank #5 of 117 at 257 Bq/m³ survey mean; residential mill rate rank #39 of 172 (13.50 mill rate). Steinbach in brief

Steinbach's municipal homepage leads with Strong Roots, Real Growth, and the street sense matches: a Southeast Manitoba service centre that still treats Mennonite Heritage Village as the cultural landmark visitors ask for by name. The Village spreads across forty acres with a working windmill, pioneer street, and the Livery Barn Restaurant, and August long weekend means Pioneer Days demonstrations rather than a generic fairground loop. City notices still point to 225 Reimer Avenue for taxes and elections, while summer Movie in the Park nights land at A.D. Penner Park with lawn chairs and a late start.

The Carillon keeps the desk local, covering the RM of Hanover beside town, Hanover Ag Fair memory pieces, MCC Thrift Store community notes, and sports chatter around the Pistons and Nighthawks. Compost Saturdays at Woodlawn School and Stonybrook Middle School are the kind of small municipal habit that marks a place where yard work and city services share the same calendar. Plautdietsch heritage programming at the Village sits beside a broader Southeast Manitoba audience the museum says it serves on purpose.

Fall on the Farm extends the Village season past the heat, and civic election prep for October 2026 already shows up on city pages. OpenStats also lists Steinbach among its higher indoor radon rankings, a data aside to the louder Heritage Village and A.D. Penner Park identity. What a local would claim is specific: Reimer Avenue city hall, Penner Park movie nights, Pioneer Days at the windmill grounds, and a Carillon beat that still says Hanover in the same breath as Steinbach.

OpenStats Broadband Download Speeds

OpenStats

Cities ranked by estimated best advertised download (Mbps). OpenStats

OpenStats City Score

OpenStats

Dimensional average of OpenStats open-data pillars for each panel year 2016–2025: tax, construction, connectivity, indoor air, water, seismic hazard, population growth, and crime severity. Each series is scored 0–1 within its edition; series in the same pillar are averaged, then all eight pillars are averaged with equal weight. Missing pillars score at median standing (0.5). Growth and CSI use StatCan annual tables; permits, mill rates, and broadband use live rows plus documented year-varying estimates where needed. Radon, water, and PGA may be survey/model vintages carried forward and are flagged when static for more than two years. External commercial livability lists are never inputs.
