OpenStats now ranks Canadian hometown connectivity from Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada National Broadband Data using dwelling-weighted household coverage and dwelling-weighted maximum advertised speeds. The internet atlas carries verified ISP rows on 340 direct-tier cities, and the 2025 broadband download study feeds the City Score connectivity pillar from the same math.
Metric definition
Each ISED hex reports 2021 total private dwellings and a household coverage gradient for 50/10 Mbps (Expr2). OpenStats assigns hexes to municipalities with population-weighted gravity so large cities retain urban hexes, then computes two city-level readings: dwelling-weighted percent of households with 50/10 availability, and dwelling-weighted maximum advertised download Mbps from ISP technology tiers (fibre and cable at 1 Gbps, DSL at 100 Mbps, fixed wireless lower). The study ranks cities on the weighted maximum Mbps for 2025; atlas pages show both percentages and ISP bars.

Why Toronto and Hamilton moved up
An earlier ingest capped every ISP at 50 Mbps and assigned hexes to the geographically nearest slug, which left Toronto with fifteen hexes and tied scores. The gravity assignment and technology ceilings place Toronto at broadband rank #75 with 949.7 Mbps weighted max. Hamilton reaches #102 on download while leading the composite board at rank #1 when other pillars align. Airdrie still shows strong suburban fibre in the atlas, yet its city-wide dwelling-weighted 50/10 reading is 49.2% because fringe hexes count in the municipal rollup.
