How Airdrie scores

Rising+17

Airdrie sits at City Score rank #8 with a standing of 65%, from 8 of 8 open-data pillars (tax, construction, connectivity, indoor air, water, seismic hazard, growth, safety). Missing pillars score at median standing so thin coverage cannot inflate the rank. Rising 17 places versus 2022 (#25 → #8).

Latest owned placements: building permit value rank #45 of 172 (2025); indoor radon rank #27 of 117 at 135 Bq/m³ survey mean; residential mill rate rank #83 of 172 (11.15 mill rate). Airdrie in brief

Airdrie reads as an Airdrie & Area town in the Rocky View news belt: big enough for its own rinks, parks, and Main Street rebuild, close enough that Crossfield and Irricana stories still travel on the same local desk. Nose Creek cuts through the core, and Nose Creek Regional Park keeps pathways and family amenities right against Downtown Airdrie. Yankee Valley Boulevard is the arterial people use to orient the south side, including Chinook Winds Regional Park and its spray park.

Recreation is the civic conversation starter. Genesis Place is the primary recreation centre, and City View headlines treat Genesis Place rinks as shorthand for whether the town's winter calendar is humming. Beside it, Ed Eggerer Athletic Park puts track and turf next to East Lake Regional Park pathways that thread toward Thorburn and Meadowbrook. Ron Ebbesen Twin Arena adds twin-ice capacity, while Bert Church LIVE Theatre and the Town and Country Centre cover the performing-arts and booking side of town life.

September brings airdrieFEST into Downtown Airdrie, and the Airdrie Ale Trail maps craft stops with a nod to 948, the city's original telephone prefix. Main Street keeps changing under staged reconstruction notices, which is a fair portrait of a corridor community still pouring concrete into its centre. Fletcher Regional Park and East Lake round out a park system that feels planned for growing neighbourhoods, not borrowed from somewhere else. The OpenStats City Score puts Airdrie at rank 104 of 125 in 2026, but the hometown tell is simpler: ice time, creek paths, and Rocky View neighbours.

OpenStats Broadband Download Speeds

OpenStats

Cities ranked by estimated best advertised download (Mbps). Anchored to the current ISED National Broadband Data vintage, then backcast along a national speed curve with city-specific fiber-arrival and 50/10 availability paths so relative ranks can change over the decade. Not a claim of audited historical hex maps for every year.

OpenStats Building Permit Value

OpenStats

Cities ranked by calendar-year building permit value. Direct rows sum Statistics Canada Table 34-10-0292-01. Cities without a direct reading use population × provincial per-capita permit intensity (estimated), so every seed city has a year-varying construction signal.

OpenStats City Score

OpenStats

Dimensional average of OpenStats open-data pillars for each panel year 2016–2025: tax, construction, connectivity, indoor air, water, seismic hazard, population growth, and crime severity. Each series is scored 0–1 within its edition; series in the same pillar are averaged, then all eight pillars are averaged with equal weight. Missing pillars score at median standing (0.5). Growth and CSI use StatCan annual tables; permits, mill rates, and broadband use live rows plus documented year-varying estimates where needed. Radon, water, and PGA may be survey/model vintages carried forward and are flagged when static for more than two years. External commercial livability lists are never inputs.

Worth knowing in Airdrie

Places to see

Nose Creek Regional Park

The downtown-core park on Nose Creek, with pathways and family amenities close to civic life. It is the green corridor you notice when you are already in the centre of town.

Genesis Place

Airdrie's primary municipal recreation centre and the shorthand for ice-time news. When the rinks reopen or shift programming, the whole town hears about it.

Ed Eggerer Athletic Park

Track and turf fields beside Genesis Place and East Lake, used for soccer showcases and hometown sport days. It is where athletic park talk and rink talk meet.

Bert Church LIVE Theatre

The city-run performing arts venue with a Presented Series and rentals. Downtown culture has a proper stage address, not just a festival weekend.
