Thompson still answers to Hub of the North when the conversation turns to Northern Manitoba services. The townsite sits on a Burntwood River meander in a northern boreal setting, with the Vale Thompson nickel operation next door: mine and concentrator running since 1961, concentrate leaving by rail.
